Choosing Your Broker:

Your first task in the purchase of your dream boat will be to find the right broker. It is very much like buying a house (besides, your boat will be your home for as long as you decide to cruise with it). Although there is nothing to stop you from contacting and dealing with the various brokers and their specific listings, it is beneficial to be dealing with one person whom you feel comfortable with. It will also help avoid any embarrassing moments confusing one broker with the next.

Once you have called and spoken to or emailed a few brokers, you will soon discover whom you would want to have be your representative in the search and purchase of your dream catamaran. From then on, refer all your queries on to this broker who will be able to contact and speak plainly with other brokers about the specific vessels you may be interested in, arrange showings of the various vessels, and ultimately help you in your decision making process. This broker will also have valuable experience to offer you in what to expect from the purchase of your vessel and to guide you through the whole process from start to finish.

Hopefully, one of our brokers can meet the expectations that you have of a good broker.

Research - Catamaran News:

Go to our Catamaran News Page to browse online catamaran magazines for the latest news, articles and reviews etc.

Research - Catamaran Owners:

Go to our page dedicated to current catamaran owners. We call it Follow the Dreams because that is what it does - it links through to owners who either have just finished or are currently still cruising their catamarans.

It is a great resource to link through to their websites, to see their progress, the problems they experience, the wonderful places they see, the fantastic people they meet and just the everyday progress - how the winds blew, or didn't, and how far they traveled in one day, or not at all (rather deciding to spend the day snorkeling, fishing or beachcombing, reading or pottering, exploring an island or trying to find an internet cafe......)

Besides just making for interesting reading, it will also help arm you with the tools and foresight that could be most useful.

Vessel Survey:

One of the most important tasks in buying a vessel will be to survey your vessel prior to proceeding with the completion of the purchase. You definitely want to have the right person for the job and of course you will want to be along to see him get into all the nooks and crannies of your boat, test all the systems, experience how the vessel sails on the sea trial etc.

The costs involved are the following:
Survey costs range from $13.00 - $18.00/ft and the haulout fee at the yard is $6.00/ft for the vessel to hang in the slings for about an hour while the surveyor inspects the bottom of the vessel. So you are looking at a total cost of around $25.00/ft.

We can put you in touch with a few surveyors.

Captains:

Once you are satisfied that you have installed the extra equipment you wanted, given the boat any TLC it may have needed and are ready to leave, you may still need some extra assistance.

If you are a very inexperienced sailor or are not that familiar with catamaran sailing, it is a great idea to hire a captain for the first leg of your journey. This captain will be able to teach you what he knows and basically show you the ropes. Once you are comfortable and confident that you know how to handle your vessel then the captain can be free to go. There is no better boat to learn to sail on than your own.

If, on the other hand, you need your vessel delivered, we can put you in direct contact with a couple of captains who can provide you with their estimates and references etc.
